Airside Structures & Specifications

Steel structures
for every
airside need.

AV SPAN delivers hot-rolled steel structures across the full range of airside infrastructure — from wide-span aircraft hangars to MRO facilities, emergency vehicle stations, and utility buildings. Everything engineered for the aviation environment.

Airside Structure Range

Every structure your
airside operation needs.

AV SPAN covers the full range of airside infrastructure — not just hangars. Every structure is hot-rolled steel, EN1090 certified, surface-mountable on existing airfield surfaces, and fully demountable.

UP TO 80m GABLE SPAN
01 — Primary Structure
Aircraft Hangars
Wide-span steel hangars for single and multi-aircraft storage. Engineered for the A320, B737, and regional jet families. Door openings up to 60m wide accommodate full wingspan access without obstruction.

02 — MRO Facilities
MRO Buildings
Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facilities demand clear span space, high eaves, and the ability to work around aircraft at every angle. AV SPAN MRO structures are configured for multi-bay operations with integrated access for equipment, tooling, and personnel.

RAPID ACCESS BAYS
03 — Emergency Infrastructure
Emergency Vehicle Structures
RFFS and emergency response facilities require immediate, unobstructed vehicle deployment. AV SPAN emergency structures are configured with multiple wide-bay openings, rapid-action doors, and layouts designed around response time as the primary operational requirement.

04 — Support Infrastructure
Utility & Support Structures
Beyond hangars and MRO — AV SPAN delivers the full range of airside support infrastructure. Ground support equipment stores, fuel and de-icing facilities, terminal annexes, crew buildings, and equipment workshops. All in hot-rolled steel, all surface-mountable.

Build Systems

Two systems.
One aviation specialist.

AV SPAN offers two distinct structure systems — a primary hot-rolled steel system for large-span, permanent aviation facilities, and a lighter aluminium system for smaller, fully demountable structures. Both are EN1090 certified and built specifically for the airside environment.

Alternative System
Aluminium Frame with Thermo PVC Roof
Demountable aluminium portal frame with a double-skin insulated Thermo PVC roof membrane and optional insulated cladding to the walls. Aluminium's lighter structural capacity pairs naturally with the lower roof loading a Thermo PVC membrane allows, making this the roofing option for the aluminium system. Excellent thermal performance, natural light diffusion, and fast installation — suited to smaller-scale airside structures.

Dimensions

Built around your aircraft
and your airside operation.

Column profiles at 5-metre increments. Configure any combination of span, height, and depth to match your aircraft type, fleet size, and available footprint.

A320 / B737 REFERENCE GABLE SPAN — 10m TO 80m EAVES 3–18m DOOR UP TO 60m SURFACE MOUNT
Gable Span
10 – 80m
Accommodates aircraft from light twins through to A320 / B737 family. Custom to your fleet and operation.
Eaves Height
3 – 18m
Column profile at 5-metre increments. Tail clearance and equipment access specified to your requirements.
Structure Depth
Unlimited
Bay extensions at 5-metre increments. Build for today's fleet and extend as your operation grows.

Door Systems

Doors sized for
the aircraft. Not the building.

Every AV SPAN structure is engineered to accommodate aviation-specification door systems. Openings up to 60 metres wide — designed around your aircraft's wingspan, not adapted from a standard catalogue.

Folding Doors
Up to 60m wide
Bi-fold and multi-fold panel systems providing maximum clear opening. Ideal for wide operations and MRO facilities requiring unrestricted aircraft access with fast operation.
Sliding Doors
Up to 60m wide
Horizontal sliding panel systems on ground track or overhead suspension. Excellent for constrained apron space where folding door swing would be problematic.
Stacking Doors
Up to 60m wide
Vertically stacking panels park above the opening, maximising clear height and width simultaneously. Critical for tall-tail aircraft and overhead clearance operations.

Foundation & Fixing Options

Your airfield surface
is already our foundation.

AV SPAN structures are designed to work with the surfaces airfields already have. Three fixing options cover virtually every site condition.

01
Surface Mount — Chemical Anchor
Column bases chemically anchored directly into existing concrete hardstanding. No new slab. No groundworks. Faster deployment, lower cost, and full demountability retained.
✦ Primary Aviation Method
02
Surface Mount — Pin Fixed to Tarmac
Where tarmac aprons are the available surface, AV SPAN structures are pin-fixed directly into the tarmac substrate. Fast, clean installation with minimal apron disturbance.
✦ Airfield Apron Method
03
Traditional — New Concrete Foundation
For greenfield sites, AV SPAN structures install on a traditional poured concrete foundation slab with column positions integrated with the groundworks specification.
New Build Option
EN1090
Certified
EN1090 Certified Manufacture
All AV SPAN steel structures are manufactured in accordance with EN1090 — the European standard for structural steel and aluminium components. This certification covers the full manufacturing, assembly and commissioning process, giving operators, planning authorities and insurers confidence in the structural integrity of every structure we deliver.
